Local Chefs and Farms to Host Farm-to-Table Fundraiser for Sustainable Jersey

Aug. 9 dinner at Terhune Orchards includes food by chefs from Tre Piani, Elements, Witherspoon Grill, Bent Spoon and more.

Sustainable Jersey announced this week that New Jersey chefs and farms will come together to celebrate the Farm to Table movement and promote awareness about sustainability efforts while raising financial support for Sustainable Jersey. The Sustainable Fare for Sustainable Jersey is a fundraiser planned for Aug. 9 under the stars at Terhune Orchards in the new red barn built by the Amish and topped with solar panels.

Guests will enjoy a five-course meal with wine pairing, cocktails, and music by the Riverside Bluegrass Band.  The following chefs have donated their time and talent for the event: Jim Weaver of Tre Piani, Scott Anderson of Elements, Chris Graciano of Witherspoon Grill, Edgar Urias of Blue Point Grill, Chris Albrecht of Eno Terra, and Gab Carbon and Matt Errico of The Bent Spoon.

Sustainable Jersey is a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey; currently 378 towns are registered and working towards Sustainable Jersey certification and 108 are certified.

“Support for Sustainable Jersey has become critical to the progress many towns have made in advancing environmental stewardship and healthy communities,” Terhune Orchards’ owner and Sustainable Jersey Board President Pam Mount said.

Sustainable Jersey has a menu of action items that are worth points. Participating towns establish a “Green Team” that leads its town through the process of completing actions to accumulate enough points to achieve Sustainable Jersey certification.  The actions related to local food include: Buy Fresh, Buy Local programs, farmers markets, community, school and municipal gardens, zoning for food production and sales, and farmland preservation plans.
