11th Annual Red Kettle Classic
RED BANK— The Salvation Army has one annual fundraising campaign, familiar to most, when they see bell ringers outside storefronts encouraging all to MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN at our red kettles. Our Red Kettle Campaign will commence Monday, November 16 at various stores in our area. Synonymously, it should come as no surprise that plans for the 11th Annual Red Kettle Classic Basketball Tournament are well on their way! This year it will take place on Friday, December 4, at The Salvation Army Red Bank Corps’ Jane H. Booker Community Center, more commonly known as “The Gym,” at 180 Newman Springs Road in Red Bank. Games will start at 6 PM. Tournament founder David Prown, of Prown’s Home Improvements, will be working closely with Lieutenant Brennen Hinzman and the Red Bank Corps Advisory Board to make this yet another eventful year.
Boys and girls basketball teams, Red Bank Charter Blue Storm and Rumson Country Day School Gators, will be vying for the coveted titles. The schools’ athletic directors, John LeFever of Red Bank Charter School and Paul Campanella of Rumson Country Day School, will be revving up their respective teams in this friendly competition which annually brings our local schools and communities together.
Cash admission will be $5 for adults and $1 for children, though children will be admitted free if they bring a donation of non-perishable foods. A snack bar will be available, t-shirt sales and chances to win a gift basket, too, during Halftime Hysteria, which was a huge hit last year. Rick Brandt will again be the Announcer for the evening. The two teams will also schedule for Battle of the Bells, when two teams compete to see who raises the most donations for one of our iconic red kettles, so be sure to keep an eye out for that and support them as they DO THE MOST GOOD for the Red Bank Corps.
