2 Bergen County Schools Named 2017 Blue Ribbon Winners

Just 17 schools statewide received the honor.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two local schools were named 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

St. Peter Academy of River Edge and Berkeley Avenue Elementary School in Westwood were just two of the 17 New Jersey schools to receive the honor this year.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes outstanding schools including: public schools including charter schools, magnet/choice schools, Title I schools and non-public schools including parochial and independent schools.

Using standards of excellence evidenced by student achievement measures the USDOE honors high-performing schools and schools that are making great strides in closing any achievement gaps among student groups.

Awarded schools will be honored at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., where each receives a plaque and flag to signify its exemplary status.
