2 Men Arrested In Bergen County Home Invasion: Prosecutor

Men were charged with aggravated sexual assault, armed robbery authorities said.

Two Jersey City men have been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault, armed robbery and burglary during a home invasion in Garfield early Saturday morning, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Sunday.

Tymell White, 21, and Xavier Epps, 22, were arrested in Paramus Saturday on charges stemming from a Garfield home invasion, Molineli said in a press release.

Garfield police were called to the residents shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday and determined that a home invasion where three or four black men reportedly used handguns to force their way into the residence, Molinelli said.

The men allegedly forced two women and a man onto the floor and sexually assaulted them at various times during the robbery, Molinelli said.

Additionally, the men stole cash, telephones, and various electronic items from the victims, Molinelli said, and fled the area in a vehicle.

The Garfield Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office initiated a joint investigation, Molinelli said.

During the course of the investigation, authorities identified, located and interviewed the owner of the vehicle, Xavier Epps, and another man, Tymell J. White, Molinelli said; a third suspect has not yet been located.

As a result of the investigation and interviews, Epps and White were both arrested and charged with armed robbery, armed burglary, aggravated sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated sexual assault during the commission of a robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Epps and White were remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail each with no 10 percent option, Molinelli said.
