Au Pair and Singer
We always think of au pairs as childcare providers, which of course they are, but they are also so much more, take Rocio for example.
Roxy arrived in America on November 17, 2014 through AuPairCare. She was heading to a local family with an infant. From the start, Roxy was an outstanding au pair and really bonded with the host family and child. Then, one day, having gone to Manhattan with her friends and dressed for St. Patrick’s day too early, she ended up in a Spanish restaurant, 100 Montaditos. As things usually go, one thing led to another and Roxy ended up behind the microphone with the band performing there. She was so good, she was asked to come back over and over and since March, she has been singing there just about every Friday night.
Before coming to America as an Au Pair, Roxy was a singer in Spain, where she is originally from. Her family sings and they have a band together. There are five siblings in all and they used to sing at clubs, festivals, weddings, etc in and around Madrid. Roxy started singing at the age of 5 so she is happy to be able to continue singing here. She says: “People love the Spanish songs that I sing and I love to make the audience happy with my voice. This is one of the best experiences in my life and I couldn’t imagine before I came, that I was going be a singer in one of the greatest cities of the world. However, being an au pair is my priority and that is why some of the weekends I had to cancel my shows to take care of my little dude!”
Roxy’s year is ending in November, but she is not leaving the US. She has decided to extend her year and stay, unfortunately she will be moving to San Diego, so maybe she will be singing there in the near future.
