BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Bergenfield woman suffered serious injuries Monday when her car left the Garden State Parkway and struck several trees before overturning, according to state police.

The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. Monday in the northbound lanes near milepost 158.5 in Elmwood Park, a New Jersey State Police spokesman told Patch.

Police said a 38-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Camry when she left the roadway, traveled up a grassy embankment through a fence and struck several trees while overturning.

News reports from the scene said the car narrowly missed a home before coming to a rest on its roof.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
