Bergen Woman Allegedly Stole $50K From Ridgewood Doctor: Prosecutor

Sussan Lopez is accused of forging checks and using the money to make 'illicit' payments, authorities said.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — A Bergen woman is accused of defrauding $50,000 from a village doctor she worked for, authorities said.

Sussan Lopez, 29, of Cliffside Park, allegedly used her position as an administrative assistant to forged and issue checks from the office's business account, said Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.

Lopez also allegedly used the account to make illicit online banking payments and allegedly created an American Express corporate account using the office as the account holder, Grewal said, and used it to pay for personal services.

The amount of stolen money and goods purchased was more than $50,000, Grewal said.

Authorities arrested Lopez at her Cliffside Park home Thursday, the acting prosecutor said.

Lopez was charged with computer related theft in excess of $5,000, theft by deception in excess of $5,000, and forgery. She was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail set at $35,000 with a 10 percent cash option, authorities said.

Lopez is due to appear in Bergen County Municipal Court May 27.
