Private garden tours offer a glimpse of impeccable backyard spaces and a chance to view secret outdoor retreats.

Do you admire other people's impeccable backyards?  Garden tours offer a chance to discover new plants, types that grow well together and to get ideas for creating your own outdoor retreat. Here are a few tours to go on around the area. Be inspired by an assortment of plants and shrubs, magnificent vistas, water gardens, terraced gardens and outdoor rooms.

“Secret Gardens of Ridgewood 2012” Tour is presented by The Women Gardeners of Ridgewood on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 10:00am - 5:00pm, Rain or Shine. Tickets are $20 prepaid, and checks must be received by May 30. $25 tickets can be purchased at the Ridgewood Library on June 2 or 3. Make check to “WGR” and mail to: 504D Aspen Lane, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. All checks must be received by May 30 for prepaid price. Call 201-560-9977 with questions. ALL tickets – prepaid or day of tour - - must be picked up or purchased at the Ridgewood Public Library on Saturday, June 2 - 10:00am - 1:00pm, or Sunday, June 3 - 10:00am - 1:00pm.

Montclair's “Roses to Rock Gardens” Tour gives you the rare opportunity to stroll through seven spectacular private gardens in Montclair. The tour begins at 9:30 am with a coffee reception at Van Vleck House and Gardens. Following the coffee reception, enjoy the Van Vleck grounds with our cell phone audio tour or proceed directly to the featured gardens and tour at your own pace, enjoying an audio narrative at each location. Luncheon - Thursday May 31st, 12:00 PM at Van Vleck. Garden Tour - Friday June 1st and Saturday June 2nd. Gardens are open 9:30AM to 2:30PM.

Greenwich Grandiflora: "Glamour in the Garden" is one of the most anticipated events of the spring season, this self–guided tour features spectacular Greenwich, CT gardens.  Visitors will be enchanted by glorious flowering plants and shrubs, magnificent vistas including waterfalls, terraced gardens and hidden outdoor rooms. The tour will feature five or six gardens. People come from all over the tri-state area to attend, it’s a self-guided tour. You are given a map and information on each garden and are able to access the private gardens, which range from the waterfront to the backcountry of Greenwich. The tour will be held on Thursday, June 7, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
