UPDATE: Cellphone Mistaken For Gun In Ridgewood Schools Lockdown: Police

Student thought he saw a parent with a gun at Travell School. It turned out to be a cellphone, not a gun.

A lockdown has been lifted at Travell Elementary School and Benjamin Franklin Middle School, police said Thursday around 2 p.m.

A Ridgewood student reportedly thought he saw a man carrying a gun outside Travell Thursday afternoon, Capt. Jacqueline Luthcke said.

The student notified a school official who promptly called police around 1 p.m., Luthcke said.

As a precaution, both schools were immediately locked down, police said.

Police searched the school and reviewed surveillance footage of the area, Luthcke said, and determined it was a parent dropping off a student. The parent was holding a cell phone, not a gun, police said.
