Child Heard Driver Say 'Get In The Car' As Vehicle Passed Him: Police

Driver was described as an Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s, police said.

A child reported that a blue vehicle slowed down as it passed him on near Whole Foods Monday and heard the driver say ”Get in the car,” Ridgewood police said.

The child said the vehicle was traveling on Godwin Avenue on the far side of the street when he saw it slow down and heard the driver say, “Get in the car, get in the car,” police said.

The boy was not positive the driver was speaking to him and there was no attempted physical contact by the driver, police reported.

The driver was described as a clean shaven Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s; the vehicle was described a turquoise blue SUV or crossover, authorities said.

Police did not locate the vehicle or any witnesses of the alleged incident.

Ridgewood Police said parents should talk to their children about not talking to strangers and to report such incidents to the authorities.

“Quick police notification increases the opportunity for the police to investigate the incidents effectively and determine if any actual threat might be involved,” police said in a statement.
