On January 24th, 2021 Glen Rock Detectives began an investigation into racially biased comments being circulated to Glen Rock High School students via Instagram. Approximately one month later, while the investigation was ongoing, additional information was received from the administration of the Glen Rock High School that questionable comments had been entered in the chat section during a school Zoom session which appeared to target another student over their gender identity.
With information provided by the student victims and the school’s IT department, detectives were able to obtain I.P. addresses and secured a court order to obtain subscriber information. Based upon both the subscriber information and other evidence developed during the investigation, a suspect was identified as a male student at the school.
On March 23rd, 2021 at 4:57 PM D/Sgt. Jim Calaski and Det. Lucas Doney arrested a 17-year-old male student, a member of the senior class, for bias intimidation and harassment. The juvenile was processed at Police HQ and released to the custody of his father. The matter has been referred to the Juvenile Intake Unit at the Superior Court in Hackensack. Due to New Jersey’s juvenile confidentiality laws no further information may be released publicly.
