German Language School Students Raise $1,300.00 for Make-A-Wish New Jersey
Glen Rock's Julia Scotti and her class presented a check to Anneliese Oehlberg, Make-A-Wish NJ.
The Board of Trustees and families from the non-profit German Language School of Morris County (http://www.glsmc.org), presented a $1,300 check to Make-A-Wish New Jersey. The school selects a local non-profit each to year to receive the proceeds from its annual holiday celebration and gift auction luncheon.
“While our mission is to educate and teach German, we are also a community that is preparing our students to help make the world a better place,” notes School Board of Trustee President Thorsten Rosner. “What better way to celebrate the holiday season than helping a local ill child with our gift auction. We specifically identified Make-A-Wish New Jersey and are excited to be able help fulfill a Morris County child’s wish.”
More than 150 students at the school sang Christmas carols, performed the Nativity play and participated in traditional German-language holiday activities, followed by a potluck luncheon and gift auction. Families also invited friends and relatives to donate to Make-A-Wish New Jersey directly at: nj.wish.org

Although German is the most widely spoken language in Europe, many schools no longer offer it as a world language option. GLSMC fills this niche by providing language enrichment and cultural programs to families who want to continue their heritage or expose their children to another culture. Students from Northern and Central New Jersey and as far away as Eastern Pennsylvania attend the Morristown program with classes tailored for all ages from toddler “Mommy and me” to K-12 classes. Students can take the National German Exam, and German language proficiency tests that enable them to study at universities and technical schools in German-speaking nations.
