Glen Rock Cop, Work Crew Nearly Struck By Car On Rt. 208 [Video]

It looked like it was a matter of inches. The driver did not slow down, as required by law, police said.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — A borough police officer and a state work crew barely missed getting hit by a passing vehicle on Route 208 early Friday morning, police announced.

Officer Jim Donnelly was assisting a work crew from the state Department of Transportation on Route 208 South at 12:42 a.m. when the work truck was hit by a passing motorist who failed to move right or slow to below the speed limit, police reported.

A dash cam camera on the officer's police vehicle filmed the collision.

The collision resulted in injuries that were not life-threatening, and everyone involved refused medial attention, police said.

Both the truck and the motorist's vehicle were totaled, police said.

"Officers assisting with roadside incidents, utility construction and even directing traffic in front of the Glen Rock High School are often confronted with distracted or impatient motorists," police said in a Facebook post. "Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention when approaching public safety, towing and maintenance personnel who may be present on any roadway."
