10:05 a.m. – A Glen Rock man reported that he attempted to purchase an aircraft online through a website called “planecheck.com”. He subsequently entered into an agreement to purchase a 2004 Cessna 182T for $200,000 and agreed to provide a $10,000 non-refundable deposit. The seller was to have flown the aircraft from Georgia and deliver it at Greenwood Lake Airport in West Milford.

When the delivery did not occur as scheduled, he contacted the seller who indicated that there was an incident during takeoff in Georgia resulting in an aircraft crash. Due to the crash the seller indicated they would no longer be able to sell the aircraft. A refund of the deposit was promised.
The complainant subsequently made an inquiry with officials at the airport in Georgia and found that there was no such crash, nor was there a record of the aircraft in question ever having been at that airport. As of the time of the report, the promised refund had not been received.

The Detective Bureau is currently reviewing this matter and a fraud claim has been filed with the complainant’s bank.
