Glen Rock Residents Launch Petition To Urge Offiicials To Reject Prospect Street Ordinance

Petition claims the ordinance would negatively impact the Prospect Street residential neighborhood if approved.

GLEN ROCK, N.J. — A group of residents is petitioning Mayor Bruce Packer and the Borough Council not to approve an ordinance that would rezone Prospect Street.

The ordinance would permit a developer to build 53 rentals unit housing complex on the street.

Prospect Neighbors started the online petition. The group claims the ordinance is "poor urban planning," and sets a negative precedent for "high-density, multi-family rental development in all other residential areas of Glen Rock."

People who commented on the petition homepage agreed, claiming the project would increase traffic and otherwise negatively impact the town.

"This new zoning ordinance does not make sense to me for more than half a dozen reasons, but for the most part, it does not really resonate with the reason why I bought a house in this neighborhood," said user Anant Aditya. "Additionally, passing this ordinance would negatively impact the fabric of the town."

Another user said the project would decrease the amount of foot traffic the area has now, which is one of the things that makes Glen Rock so charming.

"The addition of more cars with more residents in a facility like this will make this area one that will be avoided by foot," user Pam King said.

The ordinance is scheduled for a final reading and vote by the Borough Council Sept. 14.
