GLEN ROCK, NJ — The theft of high-end vehicles is on the rise in Bergen County municipalities along Routes 208, 4, and 17, police report.

In every case, police said, the vehicles were left unlocked with key fobs inside, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

Three vehicles were stolen and several were burglarized in Ramsey recently, police there said. Purses, sunglasses, iPhones, and EZPass transmitters were stolen from them. (See Related: 3 Ramsey Vehicles Stolen, Several Burglarized This Week: Police)

"Lock your vehicles and take the keys with you," said Chief Dean Ackermann.

The theft of 30 high-end vehicles from 19 Bergen County towns late last year prompted a warning from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

The northwestern, northeastern and Gold Coast portions of the county had the most number of thefts. Franklin Lakes, Glen Rock, and Paramus were among the hardest hit towns, authorities previously said.

Suspects check door handles to determine if a vehicle is unlocked. In some instances, keys and key fobs were left in vehicles, police said when the burglaries and thefts occurred.

If a vehicle was unlocked, but there were no keys inside, suspects would steal valuables and cash and then simply target the next home, authorities said.
