Man, 31, Dies In NJ Turnpike Crash In Bergen County: Police

A 31-year-old man died in a crash on the NJ Turnpike Sunday, and two others were injured, police said.

FORT LEE, NJ — A 31-year-old man died in a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Fort Lee on Sunday morning, and his passenger was injured, police said.

State police responded at 6:25 a.m. to milepost 121.5 on the Turnpike local lanes heading south, they said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, they said, a 31-year-old man from the Bronx was driving an Acura with a 24-year-old female passenger, also from the Bronx. They left Route 4 East and were heading on a ramp to the Turnpike southern lanes.

The front of the Acura struck a concrete wall to the right, police said, then crossed over a curb median and entered the path of a Ford being driven by a 23-year-old man from Elizabeth. Both vehicles collided and struck a guardrail, police said.

The Ford driver had minor injuries and the Acura passenger had non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police declined to identify the drivers or passenger.

"The crash remains under investigation, and there is no additional information available," police said.
