Police Tape Remains In Park As Glen Rock Shooting Probe Continues

The basketball courts in Glen Rock remain taped as a shooting investigation continues.

GLEN ROCK, NJ — The basketball courts remain closed in Wilde Memorial Park in Glen Rock after a shooting Tuesday night forced its closure. However, the rest of the park has reopened, officials said.

"The basketball court will remain CLOSED as part of an ongoing investigation," the town said in a message. "It will remain closed until further notice. Entry onto the basketball court is considered unlawful. No additional information is available at this time."

Prosecutors continue to search for suspects after a Paterson man, 23, was shot there around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. The man was treated from the hospital and released.

Prosecutors said that the shooting took place near where a "large crowd was gathered playing basketball."

In response to a Facebook post from police, one observer noted, "Glen Rock is one of the few agencies that readily makes the public aware of what is going on in and around their communities. Many other towns seem to shy away from keeping their respective populations aware of what is really happening."

A local high school senior said in a video on Tuesday that he heard "8 to 10" shots coming from the park. He told the media that he first heard one shot, then heard several shots suddenly ring out, as if in response to the first.

Prosecutors said Wednesday, "No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active."

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Glen Rock Police Department asked the public to provide any photos, videos, or other pertinent information that may assist them.

Glen Rock Schools Superintendent Brett Charleston said in a message to parents Tuesday night that he had "limited information," but that counselors would be at all Glen Rock schools on Wednesday to offer support.
