Register Now For Bergen County Sheriff's Citizen's Police Academy
The 10-week course kicks off Nov. 7.

HACKENSACK, NJ – Registration is underway for the next class of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Police Academy.
The ten-week program, which is open to county residents 18 and older, is designed to give citizens a working knowledge of law enforcement, according to Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton.
The course kicks off on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Bergen County Jail and will meet once a week at various locations around the county. A graduation ceremony will be held at the end of the program.

“Fostering and maintaining strong relationships within Bergen County’s seventy diverse municipalities is an essential component of law enforcement. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Police Academy gives residents firsthand knowledge of the essential work police do while bridging ties between the community and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office,” said Cureton.
During the course, which is a mix of classroom-style lessons and demonstrations by law enforcement, students will learn about a range of areas including:

- Motor vehicle stops
- Medical operations
- Disaster preparedness
- Homicide investigations
- K-9 patrol
- Fire safety
- Crime scene analysis
The class will also receive tours of the Bergen County Hail and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
