Resident Reports Fraudulent Social Security Charges, Mountain Bike Stolen From Oak Street: Police

Here is the weekly blotter of activity provided by the Ridgewood Police Department.

On Oct. 28, a loss prevention employee reported a ThinkPad tablet stolen from the office at Whole Foods Market sometime between Sept. 17 and Oct. 13 The matter is under investigation by the detective bureau.

On Oct. 28. police were dispatched to the rear of Starbuck’s Coffee 193 East Ridgewood Ave. on the report of juveniles fighting. At Starbuck’s employee reported that a group of juveniles had been harassing customers inside the store and were asked to leave. As they exited the rear of the shop they tipped over several planters.

On Thursday, a Bogert Avenue resident reported fraudulent charges had been made on his/her credit card. It is extremely important that if you become the victim of identity theft, you make proper notifications to help prevent further victimization, starting with a report to your local police department. Information is available at the police desk concerning reporting and prevention of identity theft incidents.

On Saturday, a Hillcrest Road resident reported that his/her house and vehicle had been hit with eggs sometime the previous evening.

On Saturday, Rogelio Toral, 18, of Ridgewood, was charged with underage possession/consumption of alcohol subsequent to a motor vehicle stop for a motor vehicle violation. Toral was also issued six motor vehicle summons including operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were suspended/revoked. The matter is pending municipal court action.

On Saturday, a McGuire Court resident reported that someone had entered onto his/her property and committed several acts of criminal mischief overnight.

On Sunday, an Evergreen Place resident reported a sign had been removed from his/her front lawn. The sign, which was in support of a local parking garage, had been taken sometime between 8 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

On Monday, an Oak Street resident reported his/her beige K2 mountain bike was stolen sometime between 4 p.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. the following morning. The bicycle was parked and locked to a parking meter on Oak Street.

On Tuesday, a South Van Dien resident reported that he/she had received a letter from the United States Social Security Administration advising him/her that someone had changed his/her direct deposit account information with that agency. Fortunately, the fraudulent account change was discovered before the victim’s social security account could be compromised. Once again, be aware that information is available at the police desk concerning reporting and prevention of identity theft incidents.
