Ridgewood Residents Report Being Victims Of Identity Theft And Fraud
Someone racked up nearly $2,800 in charges to a Comcast account opened in his name, police said.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — A village resident told police his identity had been stolen recently while another reported being the victim of fraud.
A resident reported July 20 that he was the victim of identity theft, police said. He reported that someone used his identity to open a Comcast account in Maryland sometime from Oct. 7 and Dec. 31.
The Comcast account had a balance of $2,777, police said. The man in the process of clearing his name from the account.

Another resident reported on Saturday that someone used his personal information to open a Verizon Wireless account without his authorization, police said.
The man told police he received letters from a collection agency in connection with the fraudulent account, police said.

Ridgewood police remind residents to report any suspicious activity regarding their personal information and to be wary of scammers. They urge residents to investigate suspicious correspondence or communications. To report suspicious activity call the department at 201-652-3900.
