Ridgewood Student Eliminated On Jeopardy! Tournament By $1

Breaking: Rebecca Rosenthal went back and forth with the winner. They both knew the Final Jeopardy! answer, but Will Scott wagered $1 more.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — What a game and it was lost by the slimmest margin possible.

Rebecca Rosenthal, a village native, lost to William Scott in the first semifinal game of the Jeopardy! College Tournament Monday.

Rosenthal and Scott went back and forth the entire game. She risked $8,000 on a Daily Double and got the answer correct.

Rosenthal had $21,800 going into Final Jeopardy! Scott had $22,400. They both knew the answer to the clue: "In one version, Thetis killed 6 of her children in her attempts to make them immortal; this warrior was her seventh." The answer: Achilles.

Rosenthal waged everything, giving her $43,600. Scott knew the answer too, but wagered enough to end the game with $43,601.

Rosenthal advanced to the semifinals by earning $26,000, the highest amount earned in the game's quarterfinal round.

Rosenthal is a sophomore at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She is majoring in art history and ancient history. She hopes to be a museum curator after college.
