Ridgewood Students 'Performed Very Well' On PARCC Exam: Superintendent
Dr. Daniel Fishbein said it would be nice if the district received individual students' scores before the beginning of the school year.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. – Although a majority of students in Ridgewood’s elementary and middle school grades who took the PARCC exams in 2015 are proficient or above, according to the state’s results released this week, a significant number of high school students opted out of the first-year exam.
“It appears that our students performed very well,” said Superintendent Dr. Daniel Fishbein, who said it would be nice to have individual students’ scores back before the start of the next school year. “We had a significant number of students who opted out at the high school level and thus those scores, even though they are high do not reflect all students.”
“Receiving the scores in late fall makes them less meaningful, because our highly trained and expert teachers have already figured out “where kids are” by the time these scores came in, Fishbein said.
PARCC, the nationwide exam testing students in grades three through 11 in English or Language Arts and Math, is broken down into five proficiency levels, with scores ranging from 650 to 850.
In English, the five levels are broken down as follows:
- Level 1, Not Yet Meeting Expectations: 650 -700
- Level 2, Partially Meeting Expectations: 700 – 725
- Level 3, Approaching Expectations: 725 – 750
- Level 4, Meeting Expectations: 750 – 803
- Level 5, Exceeding Expectations: 803 – 850
