Ridgewood Water Taking Steps To Control Corrosion In Lead Pipes: Report

Utility estimates that 250 of its 20,000 service lines contain lead.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ - Ridgewood Water estimates that 250 of its 20,000 service lines contain lead and is taking steps to control corrosion in light of the lead crisis affecting Flint, Mich., The Record reported Tuesday.

Ridgewood Water serves Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Midland Park, and Wyckoff.

The utility recently began adding phosphates to its water as part of a corrosion control program, the report stated. That program is nearly three-fourths complete and will be fully installed by June 1, said David Scheibner, the utility’s business manager.

Sodium hydroxide will help neutralize the water’s acidity, which causes corrosion, the report said.
