Six Defendants Plead Not Guilty In Bergen Burglary Spree: Report

Group accused of burglarizing 30 homes in Bergen, Somerset, and Morris counties.

Six defendants pleaded not guilty Monday to charges they participated in a burglary spree of homes in multiple Bergen County towns, including Englewood and Closter, The Record reported.

The five men and one woman were indicted in September after a nine-month investigation into roughly 30 burglaries in Bergen, Somerset, and Morris counties, the report states between July and November 2014, the report states. The defendants allegedly targeted high-end homes in the early evening.

The five men charged are: Jamelle L. Singletary, Lawal Erskine, Bruce Anderson, David Tadjiev, and Jamaal T. Sermon. Tadjiev and Sermon remain free on bail while the lone woman charged, Janay C. Cole, Singletary’s live-in girlfriend, is also free on bail, the report states.

The charges filed against them include theft, burglary, money laundering, and trafficking stolen property.
