Ridgewood Schools Nearly Locked Down After Suspicious Person Seen: Police

The police located the person and there was no credible threat, Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A suspicious person prompted a shelter-in-place status at all village schools Wednesday afternoon, Superintendent Daniel Fishbein said.

The Ridgewood Police Department contacted Fishbein at 1:50 p.m. about the person and the shelter-in-place status was put into effect for all buildings, Fishbein said in a letter to parents.

Police located the person and there was no credible threat, Fishbein said. The shelter-in-place was lifted at 2:20 p.m.

A resident reported to police that a man wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest asked for Willard School, police asid.

Police found the man, who was wearing a black, weighted vest, which looks like a bulletproof vest, police said.

Students were free to move about the building, but all the exterior doors were locked and no one was permitted in or out of any buildings.
