I am not part of the "Greatest Generation" or have ever been engaged in any conflict since, however I am a veteran. I served proudly in the Army overseas in Germany for two years. I am very well aware of the sacrifices and hardships that our military endures.
Americans should be thankful for their service. It is important that veterans are remembered every day as a daily act. Unfortunately, that is not the case except maybe on November 11th of every year on Veterans Day. As a nation, that one day is essential that we preserve the integrity of Veterans Day as the one day Americans can pause, reflect and appreciate the men and women in the military and those actively carrying out their duties in order to keep us safe and secure at home. If you know a veteran, see one or meet one, say thank you for your service. That is the least you can do.
Millions of Americans lives were forever altered because they wore a uniform to protect the freedoms and rights we take for granted. Veterans Day gives us the opportunity to publicly thank veterans for their contributions and sacrifice. Thank a Veteran. – sent by a veteran from American Legion Post 53 of Ridgewood.

About Veterans Day:
Veterans Day is the day set aside to honor all those who served honorably in the military, in wartime or peacetime. Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge their contributions to our national security and are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served, not only those who died, have sacrificed and done their duty.

History of Veterans Day:
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as "the Great War." Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.
"All gave some and some gave all". Veterans Day is a reminder of those that gave "all". – A favorite quote of American Legion Post 249 of Lake Hiawatha.
