Borough Council Approves Continued Usage of Victory Park Basketball Courts

Borough Council discussed continued usage of Victory Park basketball courts for summer basketball programs and other town happenings during their Tuesday night meeting.

Rumson's summer basketball programs will once again be permitted to use the basketball courts at Victory Park on Thursday and Friday, as they did last year.

Rumson Borough Council approved the motion to allow the continued use of the courts during their Tuesday night meeting held in the Charles S. Callman Courthouse at 7:30 p.m.

The men's basketball team, Thursday Nite Lights, younger teams of seventh through tenth graders and the D League will dribble up and down the courts from 5:45 p.m. through 10 p.m. beginning on July 7th and ending in mid-August.

The Borough also approved the placement of a '4 by 4' banner advertising St. George-by-River Canterbury Fair and is expected to be displayed beginning Memorial Day weekend at the entrance to the Sea Bright Bridge on Rumson Road.

The Rumson Country Club received support from the Borough Tuesday night when the Borough unanimously approved their resolution to support the State Division of Alcohol Beverage Control renewing the Plenary Retail Consumption liquor license.

The resolution will now be sent to the State prior to July 1st.

The last resolution passed was the raffle application passed from the Sea Bright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club (SLTCC) Landmark Friends, Inc. The raffle is slated to take place June 24, 2011 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Closing the meeting were remarks from Mayor John Ekdahl. Ekdahl reminded residents that there will be no garbage collection on Memorial Day, May 30th, and those with that pickup date will have to wait until their next scheduled regular collection date. Borough Hall will also be closed on Memorial Day.

Also, the Borough's Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service will take place this Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m., Ekdahl said. "The parade begins when the fire sirens sound," he said.

The parade route is from Blackpoint Road at Forrestdale School, where participants are able to start lining up at 9:30 a.m, turning left onto East River Road to Victory Park where the Memorial Service will take place immediately following the parade.

On June 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m., residents are invited to attend the dedication ceremony officially naming the renovated and cleaned up Pomphrey Pond on East River Road across from Borough Hall.

Finally Ekdahl reminded all to have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
Rumson Borough Council holds its open meeting at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Charles S. Callman Hall Courtroom of the Memorial Borough Hall at 80 East River Road.
