German School Of Monmouth County Celebrates Student National Awardees, Rumson Location to Open Fall 2015
Students Collect English Language Books for Bridge of Books Foundation; National German Exam, Delta Epsilon Phi Inductees Announced.
The non-profit German School of Monmouth County (www.germanschoolmc.org) celebrated its end of school year “Schulfest” with student videos, a theater performance, a presentation of National German Exam awards, and an induction ceremony for the National German Honor Society and National German Junior Honor Society.
Principal Michaela Greco and the School’s Board of Trustees presented awards and certificates to students who passed the National German Language Exam, as well as books from the German Consulate’s annual Book Awards program. The school inducted five students into the National German Honor Society and Junior Honor Society.
“Every year we see how hard students have worked and this afternoon celebrates their achievements,” said Principal Greco. “This year, our students achieved stellar scores on the National German Exam. But importantly, we also wanted to collect books for children who may not have access to them this summer. We hope the children who receive these books will enjoy reading them as much as we have.”

Students collected new and gently used English language books for the Bridge of Books Foundation (www.bridgeofbooksfoundation.org), which gives books to underprivileged children throughout New Jersey.
Following the performances, families attended a reception with refreshments including waffles and crepes with fruit and ice cream prepared and served by teen students.

National German Exam, German Language Diploma, Book Awards and Delta Epsilon Phi
The National German Exam, administered annually to more than 24,000 high school students by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), recognizes verbal and written proficiency in three levels of German. The test includes comprehension, reading and conversational skills, and applied structure of grammar and idioms in context. Annually, the German Consulate in New York City recognizes student achievement with gifts of age-appropriate German language books.
GSMC, a Partner School (Pasch-Schule) with the German Federal Republic’s Agency for German Schools Abroad (ZfA), also tests students at six levels of proficiency to earn the German Language Diploma. In addition to funding the ZfA supports German language schools worldwide with professional teacher development programs and classroom materials. Students who demonstrate higher levels of comprehension and communication on the exam are eligible to study at secondary education institutions, universities and technical schools throughout the German-speaking nations of Europe. Results of this international exam will be announced later in the year.
