The council heard the letter from Conklin and voted to acknowledge it's importance. When it was time for comments from the public, Rick Jones of Navesink Avenue had some questions. He wanted to know the criteria for public letters to be heard during the communications portion of the meeting.
According to the mayor, John Ekdahl, only letters that are requesting some sort of approval from the council are addressed at the meeting. Then Jones asked why the letter from Conklin was heard at the meeting, since that letter was based on opinion and requested no kind of approval.

"We heard that letter because John Conklin is on the zoning board so he has direct affiliation with the council," said Ekdahl. Jones had also written a letter to the council based on opinion, so he was curious as to why his letter was not addressed at the meeting.
At the meeting on Tuesday the council also voted to prohibit parking in front of the Rumson Pharmacy and to vacate the "Paper Street" in portions of Willow Lane.
The next council meeting will be on July 26 at 7:30 p.m.
