What's on Your Summer Reading List?

Last weekend's abundant sunshine, coupled with the craziness of birthday parties and communions, has made us crave the quiet of plopping down in an Adirondack chair with a tall glass of iced-tea and a great book. 

But with Bossypants and The Hunger Games long discarded on our nightstand, we are on the hunt for a new summer reading list. Not something new necessarily (we can't get enough of Ann Lamott's novel Rosie this week), just something that simultaneously sucks us into another world and makes this drab day-to-day existence all sparkly and new.

So tell us in our poll and in your comments what your book club will be reading this summer. Ours is a book club of one.

If you're on the prowl for a new title, we've got a few author events that might spark your interest:

• On June 13 at 7 p.m., River Road Books in Fair Haven will present the New York Times bestselling author of Summer Rental, Mary Kay Andrews,  as she delivers her latest treat, Spring Fever, an  escapist novel about small towns, old flames, and deep secrets ... just the thing for summer. Join the author at Nauvoo Grill in Fair Haven for light hors' d oeuvres. The $30 ticket includes the cost of the book.

• Head over to Brookdale Community College on June 1 to hear from a trio of best-selling authors to share their inspiration and how their works of fiction connect to our lives: 

Caroline Leavitt is the New York Times bestselling and USA Today bestselling author of Pictures of You, and eight other novels. Dorothea Benton Frank is the New York Times bestselling author of Folly Beach, Lowcountry Summer and Return to Sullivan Island.

Her new novel, Porch Lights, to be released on June 12, explores life, love and family, with a Southern accent. Pamela Redmond Satran author of the New York Times bestselling humor book How Not To Act Old, has a new novel, The Possibility of You, the story of three women at three key moments of the past century grappling with changing pressures and timeless choices. Enjoy coffee and a continental breakfast at the Friday morning event, “The Best Beach Reads of Summer 2012” from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., $29.
