FSPY gymnasts compete in last regular season competition

Team members placed on bars, beam, floor and more

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA C Division Gymnastics Team competed at home on May 11th in their last regular season competition. They will be hosting the YMCA Gymnastics League C Division State Championships on June 9, 2019.

The 9 and under age group was represented by Aiden Steinwald, Sophia Monteith, Evan Doran and Alana Lamberti. Steinwald placed 1st on Vault, 3rd on Bars, 4th on Balance Beam, tied for 2nd on Floor with teammate Doran, and also tied for 2nd place in the All-Around with teammate Monteith. Monteith also placed 1st on Bars, and 3rd on Vault and Balance Beam.

Kiera Brennan, Jenna Glander, Emma Johnston, Alyssa Larmore, Diane Morrow, Julia Squashic and Vivian Yu represented the team in the 10-year-old age group. Morrow placed 2nd on Balance Beam and 5th on Vault and Bars. Fourth and 6th place on Bars went to Johnston and Yu, respectively. Yu also received 6th place on Balance Beam and 7th place on Floor. Seventh place on Balance Beam went to Alyssa Larmore.

FSPY’s only representative in the 11-year-old age group, Xing Liao, earned 1st place on Vault and 2nd place on Bars, Balance Beam, Floor and All-Around.

The twelve and over age group was represented by Carol Oakes-Garcia who placed 3rd on Floor and 4th on Bars.

Gymnastics classes offered at the YMCA include parent-toddler, preschool and school age classes. They are offered Monday through Saturday. This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the YMCA! The Y also offers dance and sports classes and camps as well. Birthday parties also are available. Please call (908) 889-8880 for more information about programs at the Fanwood- Scotch Plains YMCA.
