YMCA’s PIRANHAS

Raise Money for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Annual Fund

On Saturday, May 11th, FSPY’s swim team, the Piranhas, gathered together to raise money for the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. Swimmers from all ages participated in the “Piranha-Thon”, a day-long event where the swimmers swam as many laps as they could after being sponsored by family members, friends, and even fellow teammates. Some sponsors pledged a flat donation but others challenged the swimmers with a “per-lap” donation, making the donation higher the more laps that were completed.

A total of over $19,000 was donated which reflected $4,000 more than the goal of $15,000! 56 swimmers participated in the “Piranha-Thon” in which each and every participant surpassed their original lap goal.

Michael Fisher, the swim team member who organized this event for the first time at FSPY, commented, “It was awesome to see swimmers from every practice group competing and working hard for a good cause. This event’s success speaks to the profound impact the YMCA and its programs have had on the individuals on the team. All of the money raised through the “Piranha-Thon” goes directly to FSPY’s Annual Campaign, which provides scholarships and memberships to the YMCA to underprivileged members of our community.”
