Fallen Trees Cause Power Outages in South Brunswick

Traffic lights at Georges Rd./Ridge Rd. and Rt. 130/Rt. 522, two major intersections in South Brunswick, were out Monday morning.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The 50-60 mph wind gusts aren't expected until Monday afternoon, but high winds already brought down some trees overnight in South Brunswick Township, particularly on Georges Road and Miller Road. Trees also came down on Miller Road.

A tree down on a power line on Georges Road resulted in people in that area losing power at about 4 a.m. Monday morning. It also knocked out power to the traffic lights at Georges Rd./Ridge Rd. and Rt. 130/Rt. 522, two major intersections in South Brunswick Township. As of 10 a.m. however, all the traffic lights were working again. Here's a video from South Brunswick police of a tree falling on power lines early Monday morning:

At the height of the outage, more than 300 people in the Kingston and Dayton areas lost power Monday. If there are live wires down by your car, DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR. A Plainfield woman was killed in Fanwood last summer when she got out of her car and stepped on live power lines. She was electrocuted to death. Here's a photo of a tree down by wind in Middletown, Monmouth County Monday morning:
