Police went to that neighborhood around 12:30 p.m. May 29, after getting a call about two suspicious men.

When a patrol sergeant arrived, he saw one man sitting in a green van, then spotted another man -- later identified as Napolitano -- emerge from the side of a house on that street.

When the sergeant ordered Napolitano to stop, he ran away, got into the van, and drove off.

Officers determined he had been trying to break into two homes in the neighborhood, but left empty-handed.

Napolitano was sent to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick, with bail set at $170,000.
