Burglar Arrested Carrying Knife: South Orange Cops

Rodney Cauthen was caught by police after an attempt to flee.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A 55-year-old Orange resident was arrested and charged with multiple crimes including a series of burglary charges on Nov. 2, according to the South Orange Police.

Rodney Cauthen was caught after officers responded to a call of a suspicious person on Longview Road, police said. The caller said the person appeared to be attempting to enter parked vehicles.

Officers located Cauthen, who matched the description given by the witness, rummaging inside of a parked vehicle on Longview Road and stopped him as he attempted to flee the scene, police said.

After further investigation, officers arrested the Cauthen without further incident. During a search incident to arrest, officers found several items in Cauthen's possession from two other burglary to auto incidents on Longview Road and Great Hills Drive that had been reported as well as a large knife, police said. Officers transported Cauthen to headquarters for processing and charged him accordingly, police said.
