Car Burglar Arrested After Foot Chase: South Orange Police

Marvin Mixson was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, police said.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A 36-year old Newark man was charged with burglary, theft, obstructing, resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools after brief foot chase on June 1, according to the South Orange Police Department.

According to authorities, while responding to a call at approximately 3 a.m. Officer Horton saw Marvin Mixon at the intersection of Highland Road and North Ridgewood Road . Horton was familiar with Mixon from prior burglary to auto arrests, police said

While Mixson was standing at the corner of the intersection Horton stopped to speak with him and Mixson fled on foot into the rear yards on North Ridgewood, police said.

Horton entered into the yard and observed Mixson placing items on the ground near a tree and when he was told to stop, Mixson fled a second time, police said. A short distance later, Horton was able to apprehend Mixson and he was transported to South Orange Police Department, police said.

The items Mixson was discarding was his backpack which contained a flashlight, gloves and a pair of Rayban Sunglasses, police said. It was also discovered that Mixson had just burglarized a Mercedes parked on Highland Road where he stole the Rayban glasses from the victim's vehicle, police said.

According to authorities, the theft was also captured on the victim's home security surveillance system. Mixson was charged and is now housed in the Essex County Jail, police said.
