City of Orange Township's Councilwoman shows support for Youth Football and Cheer-leading Programs

Donates money to sponsor one football player and one cheerleader for Fall 2014 season

Southward Councilwoman Jamie Summers-Johnson recently donated $200.00 to the Orange Youth Football/Cheerleading team to sponsor one football player and one cheerleader for the Fall 2014 season. The councilwoman presented the donation on Thursday August 14, 2014 at the Orange Football Field located on Central Avenue in Orange, NJ.

“As a former Pop-Warner Cheerleading Coach, I understand how hard it is to raise the funds needed for the children that cannot financially participate in youth sports,” said Councilwoman Summers-Johnson. “I wanted to plant two seeds and save two lives at the same time. Children that are involved in sports can learn teamwork, dedication, respect and self-confidence. I’m just happy that God allowed my cup to run over so that I could help. I also wanted my oldest son Isaac to witness how good it feels to give,” she added.

The Orange Jr. Tornadoes football team ,for ages 14 and under, won three titles in 2013:
the Bulldogs Shootout Conference, Twin Valley Football Conference and they were the Mid-Atlantic National Champions. The Hurricanes, a football team for ages 10 and under, were nationally ranked consecutively for two years. The Orange Storms were the 2013 Twin Valley Football Conference winners.
