River Day 2014 Festival

The Fourth Annual South Orange River Day Festival is a fun way for families to participate in cleaning up the Rahway river, learn more about our local ecology and celebrate the beauty and diversity of the watershed that we all call home.  Over the past three years, festival participants have removed more than two tons of garbage from the East Branch of the Rahway River.  The section of the river that flows through town is already bouncing back with turtles nesting on the banks, rare birds returning, and schools of larger fish thriving.  The success of River Day also led to a grant from Sustainable Jersey that is now funding development of a 7th grade science curriculum based on the ecology of the river.  Students from this project will be there to discuss their activities.  Bring your waterproof boots and we will provide the gloves and entertainment!
