Seton Hall Will Do Emergency Siren Test: Jan. 23

Sirens will sound near Seton Hall University on Tuesday, Jan. 23, but there's no need to worry, school administrators say.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Sirens will sound near Seton Hall University on Tuesday, Jan. 23, but there’s no need to worry, school administrators say.

According to a Seton Hall news release, on Tuesday, January 23, at 11:55 a.m., Seton Hall University will conduct a live test of its emergency siren and PirateAlert systems. If needed, a retest of the systems will take place on Thursday, January 25, at 11:55 a.m.

“The systems are designed to alert the campus community of an emergency situation that requires them to seek shelter indoors for their safety,” administrators said. “The siren is centrally located on the highest point on campus, and will sound a wail tone that is followed by a recorded message with instructions to seek shelter. A steady tone will sound with an ‘all-clear’ recorded message at the end of the live test.”

The system is tested silently on a regular basis and a live test is conducted twice a year — once in the Fall Semester and once again in the Spring Semester in order to familiarize the campus community with the sound of the siren, administrators said.
