SOMA Art Teacher Will Retire After 23 Years
A display at the Domerecki Gallery in Columbia High School paid tribute to Ellen Weisbord, who has also worked at Marshall School.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The public has two more days to see a unique student compilation done in tribute to a longtime, soon-to-retire art teacher in the South Orange-Maplewood School District.
According to a school news release, the display at the Domerecki Gallery in Columbia High School in tribute to Ellen Weisbord, a 23-year veteran teacher who has also worked at Marshall School, will be open to the public until Thursday, June 22.
The display – titled “Portrait of an Art Teacher: 23 years, Marshall School and Columbia High School” – includes photocopies of self-portraits done for the past 10 years by students in Weisbord’s drawing classes. The display also includes self-portrait prints from her design classes and some photos from her fibers classes, including baskets and tapestries.

Weisbord spent her career at Marshall Elementary School in 1994 and concluded at Columbia High School since 2005, a news release stated.
