South Orange Cops Seek Suspected Prowler, Burglar
The home burglary was reportedly seen from a South Ridgewood Road backyard, South Orange police say.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — South Orange police are investigating a reported prowling and burglary incident that was allegedly seen from a South Ridgewood Road backyard last week, authorities say.
According to the South Orange Police Department, the incident reportedly took place during the early morning hours on Monday, Aug. 8. Police said that the suspect allegedly entered an unlocked rear door at a South Ridgewood Road home and removed a cell phone.
Police found a cut rear window screen at another residence in the area, but no entry was gained in that incident, authorities stated.

“It appears this individual is entering the yards of residences between 3:30 and 4:45 a.m.,” police stated.
Authorities described the suspect as a dark-complexioned male about 5 feet 10 inches with an athletic build and a “low haircut.”

South Orange police stated that detectives are actively investigating the incident utilizing surveillance footage. In addition, the SOPD has increased the number of patrol units in the affected area, authorities said.
“As stated on numerous occasions, residents should not hesitate to immediately notify the police about any suspicious activity that they observe particularly during said overnight or early morning hours,” the South Orange Police Department stated.
“We strongly encourage homeowners to increase the lighting around their properties (motion sensors for example) and also to incorporate the use of alarm systems coupled with home surveillance cameras both interior and exterior,” police continued. “Crime prevention starts with the hardening of any and all properties and possessions so if you have locks please use them. Our agency provides a service of conducting Home Safety Inspections and is available to all interested homeowners.
