Taxi Driver Robbed In South Orange, Almost Pulled From Car: Cops

A taxi driver reported that a group of strangers tried to pull him out of his car during a robbery in South Orange, police say.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — A taxi driver reported that a group of strangers tried to pull him out of his company car during a robbery in South Orange last week, police say.

According to the South Orange Police Department, the driver – a South River resident – said that the robbery took place around 9 p.m. on Dec. 8 as he sat in his vehicle outside a home on Seton Place.

The victim said that three or four unknown suspects accosted him and tried to pull him out of his car. They stole “several hundred dollars in cash” and fled the scene, he said.

The victim could only describe the clothes of two of his attackers. One was wearing a red sweatshirt and the other was wearing a grey sweatshirt, police said.

South Orange police searched the area for the alleged robbers but didn’t locate any suspects. The incident is under investigation, authorities said.
