• UPDATED Sparta Zoning Board Vice Chair Resigns, Attorney Search Continues (tapinto.net) — Sparta’s zoning board vice chair Michael Leondi has resigned, and the township council has moved alternate member Brian Romanowski into his seat while shifting Isabella Ardizzone up to first alternate. As the board continues searching for a new attorney and planner after firing its previous professionals, officials are weighing applicants to fill the remaining alternate position.

• Burrell leads No. 8 Morris Knolls to comeback win over Sparta (nj.com subscription) — Sparta High School’s field hockey team dropped a tight 4-3 home game to eighth-ranked Morris Knolls after leading 2-1 at halftime. Sparta’s Makayla Brown scored twice and goalie Callie Haines made 14 saves, but Morris Knolls surged in the second half to stay unbeaten in early-season play.

• Sparta Police, EMS Rescue Hiker from the Glen (tapinto.net) — Sparta police and EMS used a grant-funded utility terrain vehicle to rescue a hiker suffering a cardiac event on the Glen’s Blue Trail, then transported her to Newton Medical Center. Officials praised dispatchers’ quick work and said the specialized vehicle, bought for Sparta’s trail system, was crucial to reaching the remote spot and getting her safely out.
