SPRINGFIELD- Un Jung Lee, a resident of Springfield, will be showing a collection of her works entitled “Floating While I was Daydreaming” at the Donald B. Palmer Museum in the Springfield Public Library. The exhibit will be available from Oct. 11th to Nov. 17th, and there will be an opening reception on Thursday, October 13th from 6-8:00 PM. This is an entirely new body of work by the Korean-born, U.S. based artist, consisting of multi-piece paintings in mixed media on paper.
“Floating” is a new series of colorful narrative paintings. Un Jung Lee captures her playful imagination that the characters are floating upside down waving their arms and legs in water and air like the astronauts and the superheroes. They freely swim in the sky, breathe in the water, and float in space even though they do not have wings, gills, and space suits. The artist gets the ideas from her own daydreaming while she is reading a book, watching television, and listening to music. Her painting style was influenced by children’s picture books, and she has developed her own style.
After receiving her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in painting from Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea, Un Jung Lee moved to the U.S. to earn her M.A. in painting at Texas Woman’s University. She has shown her work in many galleries around the U.S. and South Korea.
