Bartolotti To Become Summit Police Chief In June

The captain will replace Chief Weck, who is retiring. He's also been filling in as Weck has been out recovering from coronavirus.

SUMMIT, NJ — At its meeting on Tuesday, the Summit Common Council unanimously approved Police Captain Andrew Bartolotti as the next police chief in Summit. Bartolotti will replace Chief Robert Weck who will retire on June 1.

Weck had announced his retirement in early April. Shortly after, Weck came down with coronavirus. Bartolotti had been serving as the Officer-in-Charge while Weck was on extended leave.

Mayor Nora Radest said, “It is with great confidence and enthusiasm that I appointed Captain Andrew Bartolotti to be Summit’s next chief of police. Captain Bartolotti is a 20-year veteran of the Summit Police Department and is an uncommonly well-qualified officer. He has the deepest respect from his fellow officers and I am certain he will be an excellent chief.”

Bartolotti joined the Summit Police Department in 2000, spending four years as a police officer before being assigned to the detective bureau in 2004.

Earning undergraduate and graduate degrees from Farleigh Dickinson University, he reached the rank of sergeant in 2007, lieutenant in 2011, and captain in 2012. In 2017, Bartolotti was selected as one of six law enforcement executives from the State of New Jersey to attend the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. and train alongside some of the worlds most accomplished police leaders.

“As chief it will be my priority to continue improving the quality of life in Summit for all of its citizens through ethical, transparent, and progressive policing,” Bartolotti said. “The Summit Police Department will continue to build relationships through outreach, engagement, and our proven track record of responsiveness to the needs of the community.”
