Email Scam Targets Summit Business: Police

The author attempted to get $1,200 in gift cards authorized, police said.

SUMMIT, NJ - A Chatham Road business called in the cops after an email scam tried to bilk them out of more than $1,000 on June 10, according to the Summit Police Department.

According to authorities, the victim reported to have received two e-mails from an acquaintance requesting iTunes gift cards for two separate amounts totaling $900. The cards were to purchase gifts for family members while out of the country, police said.

The victim was then contacted a third time, from a similar e-mail address requesting an additional $300 in iTunes gift cards, however, became suspicious and notified police regarding the incident, police said.
