Friends of Library offer digital conversion for family photos, movies
Do you have photos, slides, 8mm or 16mm film, or VHS tapes? Time to transfer those precious memories to a newer format!

Looking for a great holiday gift for family or friends? Do you have photos, slides, 8mm or 16mm film, or VHS tapes? Aging, humidity, acidification, or accidental damage can ruin a lifetime of treasured memories. Additionally 16mm projectors, VHS players and other equipment are aging or no longer available. Time to upgrade to the current format. Stop by the Summit Free Public Library on Saturday, October 15 between 11 AM and 1 PM and drop off your personal collections.
The Friends of the Summit Free Public Library are sponsoring a digital preservation event on to help library patrons preserve personal collections of print, photographs, slides and audio-visual material including VHS videos, 8mm and 16mm movies. The Friends have partnered with Digital Memory Media, a leading provider of digital imaging services to provide digital preservation services to patrons at an affordable price. Twenty percent of all proceeds from the program will go to the Friends, and will be used to support the library.
Once scanned and digitized, patrons will be notified of a date and time to retrieve their material from the Library. This is a revolution in personal digital imaging,” said Library Director, Susan Permahos. “As librarians we understand just how difficult and expensive it can be to keep vital records and family photographs intact.”
