SUMMIT, NJ — Judging from reports given to the Summit police in June, people should avoid leaving valuable items on their porch or in their cars. Thieves are on the prowl.

Police said that on June 6, someone made a report that at 2 a.m., a person attempted a motor vehicle theft at their Maple Street home, but only made off with two Amazon packages.

Individuals could be seen on security footage, police said, trying to gain access to the two cars at the residence. They were not successful, but swiped the unopened packages. The packages contained an Etch-A-Sketch toy and a toilet stopper, with a total value of $26.
