Pedestrian Identified In Bus Collision On Rt. 22 In Mountainside

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — The pedestrian who was hit by a NJ Transit bus while trying to cross Route 22 East in Mountainside has been identified.

German Rivas of North Plainfield was struck by a NJ Transit bus on Tuesday March 21 at 4:25 p.m.

The crash occurred on Route 22 East in front of the AMC Movie Theater, Mountainside Police reported.

Rivas reportedly walked into the lanes of traffic traveling across the highway in a northerly direction towards the grass median when he was struck by the bus which was in the inner left lane, police said.

He was treated at the scene by the Atlantic Health EMS and Paramedics then transported to University Hospital in Newark by the NJSP North Star Helicopter. Rivas was admitted to University Hospital.
